"To lack awareness of my hands can mean certain doom in a society that constantly perceives me as a threat. I was taught to keep my hands out of my pockets while in stores and to always have my hands visible around police. This hyper-awareness marinated in anxiety fuels a racialized paranoia that mutates the way I engage with my own body. These works are meditations on this hyper-awareness."
